Chinese calligraphy is a traditional writing art with aesthetic appreciation value. The creative process allows us to observe our breathing rhythm with each brush stroke made on the paper. The flow of ink and paint offers infinite possibilities, enhance our self-awareness and deepen understanding of ourselves through connecting with our body and mind. Chinese Ink Series include workshops integrating Chinese art and mindfulness practices under the domain of Expressive Arts Therapy. In addition, on-going classes on Chinese calligraphy and painting are available.

Chinese Ink Workshops include:
1. Ink Jamming (Adult or Parent-Child)
2. Calligraphy Fun (Children aged 6-12)
3. Mindful Calligraphy (Adult)

Our facilitator, Joanna, founder of Arts for Change, is a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist. She started learning Chinese calligraphy since university and has organised and participated in joint Chinese Calligraphy exhibition at the City Hall. Joanna is passionate in integrating Chinese arts and mindfulness practices under the domain of expressive arts therapy.

Our facilitator, Wong Lai To, Wong Lai To followed Mr. Cheuk Siu-hang to practice Chinese calligraphy since 1997 and later also practice traditional Chinese painting. She has over ten years of teaching experience with children, adolescent and adult. In 2016, she curated her joint exhibition with her students titled “Little ink garden 小墨園” at the Shatin City Hall.

1. Ink Jamming (Adult or Parent-child)

You may have tried Art Jamming but never think of using ink for improvised painting. Follow the flow of ink and paint, together with the use of little tools, you can create without limit. We will guide you throughout the creative process to express your feelings and thoughts while enhancing your self-understanding. We also provide Parent-child ink jamming workshops for parent and child to have improvised painting, use ink to express feelings and thoughts while enhancing non-verbal communications and understanding.

【Ink Jamming】for Adult

Ink Jamming gets a mindful makeover, encouraging you to use the freedom of ink and paint to create a space of pure flow and positive energy. The hands-on workshop offers a safe space to express your feelings through art, and empower you to better understand yourself through connection with your body and mind.

Target:Aged 18 or above (NO pre-requisite on painting skills)
Language:Cantonese or English
Duration: 1.5 hours
Date: Private or group (minimum 2 pax) make up class by appointment

【Ink Jamming】for Parent-child

For parents and children to enjoy 2 hours ink-jamming while learn more about each other through the creative process. Our Registered Expressive Arts Therapist will guide you to express your feelings and thoughts through the ink and brush while enhancing your non-verbal communications with your child.

Target:Parent and child aged 6 to 12 (NO pre-requisite on painting skills)

2. Calligraphy Fun (Children)

Let your children express their inner world through Chinese ink and brush with motivation to learn the beauty of Chinese calligraphy and Chinese character as pictogram. Our Registered Expressive Arts Therapist will guide children to observe and expressive their feelings and thoughts basing on different themes such as animal and traits, weather and emotions, geography and nature, etc.

Target:Children aged 6-12 (NO pre-requisite on Chinese calligraphy skills)

Duration: 1 hour per class, 4 classes per course

3. Mindful Calligraphy (Adult)

With our packed daily routines, it is hard to take care of our wandering mind and let it rest. Join us to copy the Heart Sutra with brush and ink while having a cup of warm tea to relax and enjoy the process. All art materials are provided and our facilitator will walk you through the journey into tranquillity.

4. Traditional Chinese Painting (Adult or Children)

In between black and white, water and ink, there are mountains, water, clouds, smoke, flowers, birds, insets and fishes. Using the Chinese painting brush, one brush stroke at a time, you can create your master piece without limit.

5. Chinese Calligraphy - Regular Script (Adult or Children)

The Chinese word "Yong 永" already included the eight strokes of regular script: dot 點, horizontal 橫, vertical 豎, hook 鈎, lift 挑 , curve 彎, press 撇, and throw 捺. You will learn the structure of Chinese characters and the correct stroke order.
